Sometimes all the best plans don’t take in to account an occasional random act! This is the strange story of how one Dutch couple ended up displaying their 1970 Citroen DS vehicle at the Kent County Show. Cees Berkvens and his wife Reny had planned a holiday to the UK and saw that the Kent County Show was on in July, too late to enter their vehicle they decided to book the caravan park and enter as a visitor. The Society’s camp site run by Jan and Harry noticed their vintage vehicle and suggested they talk to the stewards on the Heritage Section.
Well a few hours later not only were the Berkvens displaying their car in the Show they were taking part in the Main Ring display. This is the biggest event they had ever been to in the 35 years of renovating Citroens, organising workshops for other enthusiasts and attending Heritage events. The fact they had missed the deadline for entries did not deter the fantastic group of stewards, committee and volunteers that run both this area and the Heritage Show earlier in the year.
Cees Berkvens has made a whole group of new English friends and has had an amazing three days at the Kent County Show, no doubt he will be back next year.
