The Kent County Agricultural Society support a huge number of organisations, charities and local businesses at the Kent County Show each year. In addition to offering a 50% Stand discount for all Agricultural Exhibitors the Society understands the importance of ensuring that many of the County’s best loved institutions are able to promote and attend the three day event. Steeped in history, the Show has recognised the work of many organisations throughout its 90 years and continues to place emphasis on bringing visitors a diverse event.
The first organisation that we are going to highlight is The Kent Federation of Young Farmers Clubs. This organisation has been attending the Show in one capacity or another for almost as long as the Show has been going. Kent has eleven open clubs with members ages ranging from 10 years old to 26 years old. In addition to traditional Young Farmer’s Clubs, Kent has a number of Farms associated with secondary Schools. These School Farms have reduced over the past decades with more emphasis placed on academic curriculum subjects. However, the school young farmers clubs that exist today are a credit to the school and should be celebrated.
Almost 500 young people take part in the area at the Show each year to compete in cattle, sheep, pigs and small pets classes. The Kent County Agricultural Society, recognise their hard work, impeccably turned out animals, professionalism and the sheer enjoyment visitors gain from visiting the area. The Kent County Show has put together a substantial package of support to ensure that they are able to attend each year.
Lucy Hegarty, Show Manager said “The Young Farmers Area at the Kent County Show is one of the highlights, the youngster wake up at 5am to start work with the animals and their competitions are of an incredibly high standard. We understand it is one of the biggest gatherings of Young Farmers showing livestock in Europe’.
