Long Service Awards
The Kent County Agricultural Society Awards
to agricultural workers for long service 2010
Each year the Kent County Agricultural Society have great pleasure in presenting Long Service awards to agricultural and farm workers nominated by Members of the Society.
Lord Astor of Hever DL, President and George Jessel DL, presented two awards on Friday 16th July at 10.15am outside Alan Day House in the centre of the Showground.
The first recipient was Anthony Amos, 65, who has worked for Alfred Day and Son Ltd for 38 years. He joined the company as a young man of 27 and became invaluable as the ploughman, combine driver and anyone passing the A274 from Sutton Valence to Headcorn will see his immaculately manicured hedges.
Anthony is married with one son and has lived and worked for Alfred Day and Son at Tong Farm since 1972. He has used his extensive skills turning his hand to anything that the farm required over the years, and his commitment will be sorely missed by the Day family.
The second recipient was Brian Castle who has worked for J Warnock & Son for 36 years. Brian is now 63 but joined the farm as a young skilled mechanic which owner Jim found was a huge asset. Brian a brilliant mechanic was head tractor driver and ploughman and was also able to help with any building projects at the Capel Church Farm. Brian enjoys the outside work and has done his share of relief milking the Holstein herd at the farm over the years. He has also been part of the family livestock showing team and himself won Champion Holstein 15 years ago and Reserve Interbreed. Brian will retire at 65 in a couple of years time, he is married to Wendy and has three children. His son has followed his farmer into farm work and is a shepherd on a local farm.
