This year the woodland area hosted the return of the Palemaking Competition on Saturday 9 July. After a 15 year gap, the competition returned and the re-introduction has been kindly supported and sponsored by Torry Hill Chestnut Fencing. Competitors had 40 minutes to make as many bundles of fencing pales as they could with points being awarded for the quality of the workmanship. The results from the competition were:

  • First Place: Darren Holmes
  • 2nd Place: Peter Lastovicka
  • 3rd Place: Shaun Kingston
  • Under 25 winner: Peter Lastovicka
  • Over 65 winner: George Wood

This years overall winner Darren Holmes is the grandson of Joe Holmes who donated the Joe Holmes Shield to the Kent County Show over 30 years ago!
