Kent Federation of Horticultural Societies

Kent County Show 2010, 16th, 17th & 18th July

The Kent Federation of Horticultural Societies annual competition is at the Kent County Show.

The Federation, formed in 1938, was originally based on societies from Kent. Since 2001 however, several societies from East Sussex, and more recently clubs from Surrey have been welcomed, bringing our membership to over 200 affiliated clubs and organisations.

There are also a large number of individual members, many of whom are enthusiastic Speakers and Judges involved with gardening clubs and societies throughout the South East.

Things have changed beyond recognition since the foundation of the Federation.  Although people have more leisure time these days, they also have the opportunity to use it in ways undreamed of by our forbears.  However, gardening remains as popular as ever, even though today`s gardens tend to be smaller, and the Federation is dedicated to supporting all those people involved in the many aspects of horticultural activities.

It attempts to do this in many ways :-

* Provide societies with an up-to-date list of Judges and Speakers.

* Issue a Quarterly Newsletter which endeavours to be informative and occasionally amusing.

*Arrange a Summer Show held in conjunction with the Kent Show at Detling and an Autumn Show in various locations, both providing additional Domestic and Craft competitions.

*Organise a popular 100Plus Club monthly draw.

*Operate a website that is available to all societies and members to use as a Notice Board, FREE OF CHARGE

*Arrange occasional social events such as Quizzes and Members` Days.

*Maintain a good relationship with specialist horticultural companies and societies in the South.

If you, or your society, are not affiliated to the K.F.H.S. and would like to learn more, we would be delighted to hear from you.
